Vintage F.E. Thomas "Abbey & Imbrie" 9 1/2' Trade Rod

<< Back to Vintage Rods & Reels

Rarely seen F.E. Thomas trade rod made for Abbey & Imbrie in New York.

This 9 1/2' 3pc 2 tip rod has full intermediate wraps, and nickel silver slide band seat with bullseye butt stamp.

"Abbey & Imbrie New York" is stamped into the seat.  I don't recall in my 30+ years in this shop having ever come across an A&I Thomas trade rod, so this one is a rare bird.

This early 1900s rod is mostly original but has one tip that is broken off and repaired 7" short.  The broken off tip section is included in case you want to have someone scarf the tip back to full length.  There are a couple of rewrapped guides as well.

Cork grip is smooth and in excellent condition.

The rod does also have a couple other minor imperfections, such as a crudely resoldered agate stripping guide,  and a reel foot stopper that has been soldered onto the full nickel silver sliding band seat.  See last photo for detail.  These can both be corrected pretty easily by cleaning up the solder on the guide, and heating and removing the stop on the seat.

If you love early F.E. Thomas rods, this is one that you most likely do not have in your collection, and at a great price.
