Vintage c1947 Orvis 9' 3pc Fly Rod

<< Back to Vintage Rods & Reels

Circa 1947 Orvis 9' Impregnated fly rod.  Marked "Orvis-Impregnated" and "Pat Pend" in ink, along with the serial #4950 on each section.  Rod has a down-locking, Bakelite seat.

According to the Orvis database, serial #4950 was completed on 12/1/1947 and was built by George Reid, Cal Skinner and Ed Hemphill.

This 3pc, 2 tip rod is listed on it's original tube label as a 5 5/8 oz rod with 18 & 12 ferrules.  One tip is 3" short, otherwise all sections are full length and straight.  Label is covered with plastic, and a little hard to read.

The rod was re-finished at Orvis at some point, including a brand new cork grip, with the tube showing the shipping label from that time, and for some reason only the short tip was refinished.  The full length tip is unrestored, but has darker silk then the rest of the restored rod.

The work that was done to the rod is excellent, and the refinished rod looks nearly new again.

Comes with original bag and tube.  Tube label also shows the rod to have been $82.50 when it was new in 1947.
