Vintage 1920s Hardy 3" St George w/Post-War Spool

<< Back to Vintage Rods & Reels

Early 1920s Hardy 3" St George MkII fly reel from my own personal collection.

Early MkII check reel with a full length, smooth Alloy foot with single mounting rivet. Likely 1921-1923.

Worn leaded finish on frame, and worn enamel on spool.  Reel is tight and works just as it should.

This reel would have originally come with a 3-screw latch spool, but at some point in the last 100 years it was swapped out for a post-war, 2 screw lightly enameled spool that has enough finish wear on it that it matches the worn leaded frame nicely.

The reel has three cracks you can see in the outer rim of the reel frame, but I have fished this reel for years, and there is no sign of weakness or change in the cracks you can see.

The Agate line guide has one line showing in it, but I think it is part of the Agate and not a crack because it feels perfectly smooth and stable.  Again, I've fished this reel just this way for years without any issues.

Here's a great opportunity to own and fish a great early example of a 3" St George, at about 1/3 the cost associated with buying a minty one!
