Vintage Hardy 2 7/8" Perfect Dame Stoddard Fly Reel

<< Back to Vintage Rods & Reels

Here's a nice little Pre-War Hardy Perfect, circa late 1920s that was made for Dame Stoddard Co. in Boston, Mass.

2 7/8" diameter,  Duplicated MkII adjustable check, Brown ivorite handle, Ribbed alloy foot with pat.number stamp.

Winding plate has pre-war circular markings, and is also stamped "Made for Dame Stoddard Co. Boston, Mass.".

Frame has a little ding on the handle side edge, and although it doesn't look it, the 2" alloy foot may have been shortened 1/2".  They were typically 2 1/2" but it looks just as if it were original, and works perfectly.

Reel is tight and smooth with no play.  Handle spins freely.  Drag is smooth and sounds beautiful.  With no agate, this reel can be fished right or left hand.  (Most use a drop of blue loctite on the screw when fishing LH)

This one is ready for another 90+ years of use.

Dame Stoddard changed their name to just Stoddard's about 1930 so a Dame Stoddard marked reel is scarcely seen.

Put your favorite 2/3/4 line and some backing on and take this one fishing!
