Vintage Sam Carlson Browntone 7' 2/2 Fly Rod

<< Back to Vintage Rods & Reels

Very rarely seen Sam Carlson made 7' "Thomas Browntone" 3/4 wt fly rod.

This rod was likely made at the very beginning of Sam's ownership of the Thomas shop in 1958..

This 7' 2pc, 2 tip, 3 3/8 oz rod was made by Sam using a Thomas blank acquired when he bought the shop.

"Thomas Browntone" written in white ink on the butt section.

Beautiful 6" cork grip has soiling from use, but is nice and smooth.

Dark red silk with lighter red and black tipping over snake guides and Agate stripping guide.

Blackened ferrules and Cap & Ring over a full cork seat.  Cedar butt cap spacer sits under the cap for support of the cork seat.

This rod is all full length, straight and almost completely original.  The rod has a couple of guides that have been rewrapped and the hook keeper has an overcoat of varnish on it, but otherwise everything appears to be all original on this amazing rod.

Comes with what I believe are the original bag and aluminum tube.  I have seen other early Carlson's using these "Cal-Air" style tubes, although I can't be sure.

These Carlson hex rods are nearly impossible to find.  I have only seen a handful of them in over 30 years in business.

Don't wait on this one.  This is a very rare opportunity to add a very special Carlson-Thomas rod to your collection.
